A longing nostalgia for an old self

Thought provoking piece about missing my old self.

Do you ever miss your past self?

Do you ever wonder who you’d be if certain aspects of your life didn’t change?

What if you kissed life right in its face!

What if you smiled without ever wondering how awkward your teeth looked

What if you spoke in a crowd without worrying what they thought about your appearance

What if you clicked selfies because you wanted to capture your truest and most goofy self.

What if you travelled and spoke to the people on your journey and wondered if they thought you’re annoying

What if you kissed someone on the first date! (without having to worry if that was scary)

What if you danced because you wanted to, without worrying how I’m perceived.

What if you spoke when you wanted to, without having to worry if someone thought you were stupid.

I still miss the old me, how I felt in certain situations — how that moment made me feel.

I miss certain people who aren’t part of my life now.

Some of them are dead.

Some of them I cut off

Some of them broke my heart.

I know I’m happier now, but I do miss the person I used to be — a longing for nostalgia for being my old self.
